The Rotary Head Speed Clamp™ Field Trial Proven Advantages

Speed Clamp™ 1) Consistently there are many different ways of removing the rotary head, all of which had various safety concerns. Almost every person we spoke with had a slightly different version of how they had performed this in the past. The unsafe use of chains, straps, and other equipment along with unexpected drops and mechanical failure were just some of what we heard in these methods.

With Speed Clamp™ 1) The use of the Speed Clamp ensures that there is a safe, consistent procedure used on every rig for this process utilizing only equipment rated for the application it is being utilized for.

Without

Speed Clamp™ 2) The conventional removal process involved many individuals with various levels of experience, along with many opportunities for DROPs, pinch points, struck by, contusions, strains, lacerations, amputations and even death

With Speed Clamp™ 2) The Rotary Head Speed Clamp™ uses mechanical means and a consistent SOP to reduce and/or eliminate the majority of those hazards.

Without

Speed Clamp 3) Using conventional methods, the time to remove a rotary head can take from 3 to 45 minutes depending on various unforeseen and changing circumstances. Weight of the rotary head, tightness of the elements, weather conditions, crew experience, availability of strapping media, are just some of the factors that can slow down the removal.

With Speed Clamp™ 3) Regardless of the challenging factors listed and time influencing concerns, a rotary head will be removed in less than 2 minutes on the first use with an average of less than 1 minute after 3 uses of the Rotary Head Speed Clamp™.

Without

Speed Clamp™ 4) Equipment damage can and does occur from conventional forms of the rotary head removal. The most common damages occur to the rotary head itself during the removal through drops or the element becoming wedged. More extensive damage is known to occur to the iron rough neck when utilized to hold down the rotary head while the drill pipe is pulled out. Chains, slings and other less costly but high liability equipment is also found to be damaged due to improper use.

With Speed Clamp™ 4) The Rotary Head Speed Clamp™ has certifications and pull tests on every component, both individualized and as a group to assure proper safety ratings and use of product.

Without

Speed Clamp™ 5) Using conventional methods, the large number of personnel on the rig floor increases the opportunity for exposure to hazards.

With Speed Clamp™ 5) Although there were sometimes as many on the drill floor on the first use of the Rotary Head Speed Clamp™, typically the removal operation will consist of 2 people. This is on average half of the exposure with conventional methods.

Without

Speed Clamp™ 6) The conventional methods of removing the rotating head for element replacement can detour personnel from performing this process. This delay or even absence of replacement can exceed the elements ability to perform properly, thus increasing the opportunity for a catastrophic event

With Speed Clamp™ 6) The Speed Clamp’s SOP creates a quick, safe removal process removing many of the psychological obstacles which previously discouraged potentially required rotary head maintenance

Training We recommend a 15 minute training which can be conducted in the normal safety meeting. It consists of all personnel involved viewing a 5 minute SOP video, then a 5 minute video of actual usage, then 5 minutes of discussion along with question and answers.

Cost The Rotary Head Speed Clamp™ does not require any capital budgeting or expense. It is a rental unit with a standard rental rate. The wells typically split this cost based on days per well during that month. The cost savings through time efficiencies alone exceed the rental fee on each well.

Partnerships The Rotary Head Speed Clamp™ is a new but simplistic tool and method that is rapidly gaining positive attention. Due to its recognized need, we have already established partnerships with most of the leading Rotating Head suppliers.
